Plan Development

From the rich and detailed information gathered during the interview process, EssentialSpace establishes the direction of the design: we outline the objectives and the extent of the project by visiting the site several times; we begin the process of dowsing for water veins and energy lines, determine the cardinal direction points and alignments of the sun's path, and establish the "genis loci", or energetic presence, of the space.

At this time, we also assess plant material for its applicability to site-specific environmental factors and for its compatibility with the client's vision. Soil samples are taken and plant material availability, cost, and delivery logistics are researched. Depending on the scope of the project, we may also evaluate HardScape concepts such as the balance of water, stone, wood and aggregate materials, and plan for their development.

All HardScape material (stone, brick, pea stone, crushed stone, etc.) is reviewed via samples, photographs or stone-yard visits with the client to ensure client satisfaction.
